We talked about Remembrance Day in English lessons. It is a day when we commemorate people who died in the First and Second World War, and also the veterans. This tradition started after the First World War. It takes place on the 11th of November.

This year, at our school, poppy flowers were offered for sale. If you bought one, you could wear it on your T-shirt, sweater, or jacket, and the money from the sales went to charity and was given to the veterans.

I must say that the event was very successful. Despite the fact that it was the first year of selling poppies, almost everything was sold out!

The poppy flower became a symbol because it was the only flower that grew on the battlefields after the war. At 11 o’clock in the morning on the 11th of November, people observe a two-minute silence to remember those who died in the war.

In today’s world, it is important to remember events like Remembrance Day. They remind us of the sacrifices that were made for our freedom and peace. Remembering the past helps us appreciate the present and hope for a better future.
